The aim of this website is to document and present Amsler family research. This includes the origin of three Amsler lines from their respective hometowns – Schinznach, Densbüren and Bözen, all located in the northern part of Canton Aargau, Switzerland.
My primary focus is on my hometown Bözen, a parish which includes Elfingen and Effingen. These three villages are in the Fricktal, a valley in Canton Aargau, exactly halfway between Basel and Zurich. Results of Y-DNA analysis indicate that Amsler lines from Bözen, nearby Densbüren and Schinznach share a common ancestor who lived in the first half of the 16th century.
The first known record of the Amsler family name is taken from the Citizen Registry of the City if Berne in 1435. The family name reappeared in Aargau a hundred years later. Since then, the name has spread all over the globe and it is reasonable to assume that the origin of most of the Amsler’s living today is Switzerland.
The objective of this site is to document Amsler family research and make these findings available to anyone who shares this passion and is researching their ancestors from this part of Switzerland.
